General Fan Motor Check Steps

  1. Check DC Voltage

    • Use caution when checking DC volts on fan motors.

  2. Check Fuse

    • Inspect the 3.15A fuse on the control board using a continuity test.

    • If the fuse is open, replace the control board and fan motor.

  3. Spin Test

    • Unplug the fan motor from the control board.

    • Manually spin the fan blade; it should rotate freely for two full revolutions.

  4. Ohm Test

    • Use a meter with a 400k ohm rating or higher.

    • Unplug the fan motor.

    • Place the black lead on the motor's black wire.

    • Place the red lead on other fan leads one at a time.

    • Refer to charts for proper ohm readings.

Here is a video on how to perform the check.

DC Voltage Check for Board vs. Motor Issue

  • Use provided charts to identify correct voltage values.

  • This helps confirm whether the problem is with the control board or the fan motor itself.

Outdoor Fan Motor Error Troubleshooting Checklist

  1. Pull disconnect for 5 minutes & reapply, check to see if error code reappears.
  2. If error code reappears turn power back off to the disconnect and check the rotation of the fan by spinning it with your hand. Check to see if there is any kind of resistance when spinning and/or if the fan stops suddenly. There should be no resistance when turning and the fan should stop slowly not suddenly or abruptly.
  3.  If motor spins with no problems proceed to ohm the fan motor windings with a quality ohm meter.
  4. If the fan motor ohms bad it is a good practice to replace the Main Control board with it as defective fan motor windings can have a negative effect on the Main Control board.
