Flexible duct work has been used for many, many years. It has also been done incorrectly for many, many years. Some will say flex duct is awesome, it saves time and is easy to run. This can be true, when its installed correctly. Others will say flex duct is the enemy to "Good" airflow. This too can be a true statement, depending on how its installed.
The common denominator to both arguments is INSTALLATION. More times than not, flexible duct is installed WRONG, Its usually the wrong size, too many bends and pinches, and rarely supported correctly. This can lead to poor airflow which in-turn, can lead to catastrophic failure of the equipment. Take a look at the guide attached from the ADC (air duct council), if you install flexible ducting per theirs and manufactures guidelines, you increase the survival rate of the equipment immensely. Keep your customers AND your equipment happy.
