How to Ohm a 3 Phase Compressor

You will need a meter that can read MegaOhms. You can also use a Megohmeter given it is not a scroll compressor. Follow steps below.

1. Begin by disconnecting power from unit.
2. Locate Compressor Lugs or Plug and pull from compressor
3. With your meter, set to the Ohms setting
4. Test across each compressor terminal ex.( U-V, U-W, V-U)
-3 Phase compressors windings should all ohm out to the same value.

If all these check out, then proceed to check each terminal to ground. (Typically Discharge Pipe)
25 Meg Ohms to ground or greater including OL are acceptable.
If less then compressor is bad. Typically a grounded compressor will show itself with blown breakers or fuses.
