If you have a compressor that is noisy then you may have some issues.

Here are some typical things that happen on startup of a compressor that may cause noise issues.

  • Liquid Slugging- liquid refrigerant in the compressor
  • Washing- liquid refrigerant foams the oil and then washed the bearings then lack of lubricant causes damage.
  • Wrong Charge
  • Service valves not open

If you are experiencing noise issues after install, then look for the following.

  • Liquid Slugging- verify metering device and superheat.
  • Electrical issue
  • Cold Starts- needs to have a crankcase heater.
  • Oil return issues- verify traps or potentially areas that need them

If the compressor is grinding then there may have been mechanical damage to it. Consider compressor replacement.
