Pelican Site Setup Process
Step 1: Prepare for Setup
- Locate the Gateway – Find your Pelican gateway device.
- Consult the Building’s IT Department – Before connecting the gateway:
- Obtain permission if required.
- Confirm if the IT department needs to open a network port for proper connection.
- Record Serial Numbers – Before connecting the gateway, go around the building and note down:
- Each thermostat’s serial number.
- The corresponding location for each thermostat.
Step 2: Connect the Gateway
- Plug the gateway into the router in the building.
- Wait for both lights on the gateway to turn solid green.
Step 3: Troubleshooting Gateway Lights
- Both lights solid green → The gateway is successfully connected.
- LAN light blinking → The gateway is struggling to connect to the local network. Contact the IT department.
- Server light blinking → The gateway is attempting to connect to Pelican servers. If this continues for an extended period, contact the IT department as there may be an internet connectivity issue.
Tip: Take a picture of the gateway’s serial number or write it down for later reference.
Step 4: Register Your Site on Pelican's Website
- Go to www.pelicanwireless.com.
- Click "New Site Setup" in the upper-right corner.
- Enter the following details when prompted:
- Gateway Serial Number
- Site Name (Choose a descriptive name for the location)
- Site Type
- Click OK and confirm the pop-up message.
- Check your email (including your junk/spam folder) for a confirmation email from Pelican.
Step 5: Finalize Your Site Setup
- Click the link in the confirmation email.
- Use the same email address to create a new password and log in.
- Once logged in, the main screen will display.
Step 6: Identify and Configure Thermostats
- If your thermostats are wired and powered, they will start appearing as notifications.
- Click the notification to view the list of thermostats — they will display by serial number with "(no name)" next to them.
- Refer to your earlier list of serial numbers and assign appropriate names to each thermostat.
Naming Tip: Use names that make sense to the building occupants for easier identification. Use the Notes section to reference unit numbers or RTUs for better clarity.
Step 7: Configure Thermostat Settings
- Set heating and cooling stages, as well as anticipation degrees.
- At the bottom of the thermostat settings page, enter:
- BTUs
- Tonnage
- In Site Settings, enter:
- Cost per kilowatt-hour
- Cost per therm
This will allow Pelican to calculate energy usage and costs efficiently.
Step 8: Complete Setup
- Continue naming and configuring the remaining thermostats.
- If you experience connectivity issues, visit Pelican’s website for additional support.
